How to Preliminarily Identify Real and Fake Jade

How to Preliminarily Identify Real and Fake Jade

Many times, you will be caught off guard against fake jade. The most important thing is to have basic identification skills. Otherwise, you will be fooled by people with bad intentions and fall into the trap they carefully set, resulting in financial losses. In response to the requests of fans, I compiled this article and shared it with everyone.

1. Important identification features of jadeite

1. Luster, strong gloss. Because jadeite has a higher refractive index and higher hardness, its luster is stronger than other similar jades. The surface of natural A-grade jadeite has a strong glass luster.

2. Color. The color of jade is rich and uneven. You can recognize the colors and tones that appear frequently by looking at them more often. This is also the first factor in identifying and distinguishing other jewelry and jade.

3. Density. Jade has a dense structure, with a density of 3.33g/cm3-3.35g/cm3, which is greater than most green jades. Jadeite in larger blocks. When you weigh it in your hand, it feels like "hitting your hand". Other quartzite jades are lighter, such as Hetian jade, which is only 2.91g/cm3-3.31g/cm3, and chalcedony, which is even denser, only 2.44g/cm3-2.82g/cm3.

4. Hardness. The general hardness of jade is called (Mohs), and the hardness of jadeite is 6.5-7 degrees. Jade is classified into nephrite and jadeite, and jadeite belongs to jadeite. It is also an important symbol of its dominance as the king of jade.

In the jewelry industry, jade's hardness level is second only to diamond (10 degrees), tungsten chrome (9 degrees), and crystal (7 degrees). It is much higher than glass (5 degrees), nails (3 degrees), silver (3 degrees) and gold (2.5 degrees). The higher the hardness, the less damage the jade will suffer while wearing it.

5. Refractive index: The refractive index of grade A jade is 1.66 degrees, which can usually only be detected through instruments. The certificate for A-grade jadeite must meet this standard. Refractive index of Grade A jadeite: 1.66 (point measurement)
