Floating flowers, falling snow, sprinkled gold...the natural "painting" in jade. Jade is beautiful because of it, and it is also valuable because of it!

Melting ink, falling snow, sparkling gold...it seems no surprise that these beautiful scenes appear in the painting. But do you know? These scenes can also appear in jade, greatly increasing the value of jade! Perhaps you don’t know much about them yet. Let’s appreciate and identify these three natural artistic conceptions together today!

Floating Flowers

Emerald flowers float down gracefully.

Like the misty blue sea,

Another example is the elegant and ethereal landscape of landscape paintings.

What are floating flowers?

Jadeite floating flowers refer to a piece or a cluster of scattered colors, which are actually blue or green , distributed in the form of silk threads, dots, and layers on the jadeite base (referring to the basic part of jadeite without the color). The floating flowers are either floating or suspended, with different layers and postures, and are agile and elegant, full of beauty. Therefore, floating flower jade is deeply loved by people.

Floating flower jade is a very charming type of jade; however, along with its rise, some phenomena of “fake eyes passing off as pearls” have also appeared. For example, some people often mistake the moss in jade for floating flowers, and spend a lot of money but end up not buying real jade with floating flowers. Although the moss and floating flowers on jade are similar in appearance, their prices are very different, so how do we distinguish between the two?

What is moss?

The moss on jade refers to black or dark-gray strips or patches on the surface or interior of jade . It is more common in jadeite raw stones. Because it appears very abrupt in jadeite raw stones, people in the jade industry call it the "ringworm" of jadeite.

How to distinguish between the two?

Look at the color

The floating petals of jade are green or blue , while the moss of jade is black or dark gray . The color difference between the two is very large. At the same time, when other conditions are the same, jadeite with green floating flowers is generally more valuable than jadeite with blue floating flowers.

The floating flowers on jadeite are lively and elegant, like ink dropped into clear water, the blending of ink and water creates a poetic and picturesque scene. The moss on jade generally appears dull, rigid and not lively.

Falling Snow

Emerald snow flutters down, dancing all over the sky.

Willow catkins drifting in the wind can be imitated.

The plum petals are shining with moonlight.

What is “falling snow”?

The "falling snow" in jade is actually a kind of jade "cotton", commonly known as "snowflake cotton" . "Cotton" refers to the translucent to slightly transparent white solid inclusions in jade, which are generally composed of minerals such as nepheline, pyroxene, analcime, etc. mixed in jade, and often appear in the form of filaments, clumps, blocks, dots, etc.

Because it affects the translucency of jade, "cotton" is often considered an impurity. "Snowflake cotton" is the most special one among them. It is not regarded as a "defect" but can increase the value of jade. It is magnificent and well-arranged, creating a wonderful artistic conception of enjoying the snow in the jade, and has a unique charm.

Snowflake Cotton Jade ≠ Mu Na Jade

"The sea and the sky are one color, dotted with snowflakes, the chaos begins, and Mu Na is supreme." This is also often said in the jewelry market, referring to the high-quality "snowflake cotton" Mu Na jade. In fact, this is not accurate. Most of the high-quality "snowflake cotton" does come from the Mu Na mine in Myanmar, but not all jade produced in Mu Na has "snowflake cotton", and not all high-quality "snowflake cotton" jade comes from Mu Na.

Sprinkle Gold

The emerald is sprinkled with gold, with a sparse and dense pattern,

Careless and casual,

The stars are dotted and natural.

What is gold sprinkling?

Gold sprinkling usually refers to a decorative technique that usually appears on rice paper and bronze ware. The gold dots and gold flakes are arranged in a sparse and dense manner on the same object, and can be combined into patterns.

The sprinkled gold of jadeite refers to the phenomenon that the "yellow fog" formed by the impregnation of limonite appears on the white or emerald jade base. These yellow spots may also appear in clusters or flakes. They are scattered like gold, so it is called sprinkled gold.

The beauty of jade has been talked about since ancient times. No wonder even Xu Xiake once exclaimed in admiration, "Thus we know that the creations are becoming more and more amazing. From now on, all painting styles will become vulgar, and the art world can be abandoned."
