What color jadeite should I buy?

In order to evaluate and characterize these colors, Chinese jade artists use many words that symbolize colors to describe them. There are dozens of names, and the names vary in different regions. Taking the Yangtze River Delta region as an example, the descriptions of jade green include deep ice green, sunny ice green, boxwood green, dark green, sunny green, golden green, apple green, etc. But no matter what the name is, the most important four words to describe the color value of jadeite are "rich, positive, bright and harmonious".

Rich: refers to the color of jadeite should be rich green, there should be more green. The more and richer the green in the jade, the higher the value. But if it is too dark, it will be heavy, so the color must be correct.

Positive: The emerald green of jade should be pure, not blue, not yellow, and with few other colors, which is what we call "not evil".

Yang: The green color should be bright, appearing bright green under normal light conditions, not dark or dull.

And: It means that the distribution of green in a piece of jade should be even, and the color tone should be harmonious and not messy. Through these four words, we can specifically evaluate the quality of the color of a piece of jade.

However, it must be noted that it is generally best to view jade in the morning when there is sunlight; if observing with light, the light source should be placed in front of and above the observer, and transmitted light should not be used for observation. Only in this way can we truly evaluate the quality of jade color.

The so-called "true color" and "off-color" are a rough classification standard used by the jade industry to classify jade color categories and grades. Green and red are considered primary colors in the jade trade. All jadeite of noble value and gem grade is required to have true color or a color similar to true color, and have the characteristics of rich, pure, bright and uniform. This is the so-called "rich, correct, bright and uniform".
