What are the standards for good jade? What kind of jade is considered good jade?

1. The standard of good jadeite-jadeite volume

Under the same jade reference factors, the larger the jade, the higher its value. This standard mainly applies to special styles of jade products, such as jade ring faces and jade ornaments. Large jade egg-shaped faces usually have more transparent water quality. In 1997, Christie's auction house in Hong Kong sold a 17mm jade ring face for HK$13 million.

2. The standard of good jadeite-jadeite color

"Zheng, thick, bright and uniform" is the four-character classic for jade color. "Rich" refers to the saturation of jadeite's color, that is, the depth of the color. If green ink is taken as 100% as a reference ratio, the internationally recognized optimal concentration is between 70-80%. Jadeite with a color depth below or above this level can hardly be called top-quality jadeite color.

"Positive" refers to the purity of the jadeite's color. The most "positive" jadeite color is the one that has no other colors visible when observed. Many jades appear yellowish, bluish, or grayish when observed closely, and these cannot be considered genuine.

"Yang" refers to the brightness of jadeite. The brightness of jadeite's color is the most critical factor in determining jadeite. The “Yang” of jade can be likened to the young buds of plants that flourish in the early morning, full of energy and freshness!

3. The standard of good jadeite - light transmittance

Light transmittance refers to the depth to which light penetrates into jade. If jadeite allows a lot of light to pass through, it will appear "watery", which is the so-called "watery" feeling. If the light cannot penetrate the interior of the jade, the jade will appear very "dull", which is the so-called dryness. The light transmittance of jadeite types decreases from high to low: glass, ice, glutinous, bean, etc. All good jade is usually glass or ice type.

Jadeite with good light transmittance is more lively, cool and moist, and looks very beautiful when paired with uniform color.

4. The standard of good jadeite - the coarseness and fineness of its texture

Texture refers to the fineness of the crystal grain size within the jade's internal structure and the density between the crystals. The internal structure of jade directly determines its light transmittance. The finer the texture of jade, the stronger its reflectivity will be after polishing, making it appear more "rigid". So it looks very beautiful!

5. Label of good jadeite-jadeite cutting

The cutting of jade can be judged from: the thickness, outline, symmetry of the finished product, length-to-width ratio and curvature of the jade. The outline determines whether the finished jade product looks good or not; the symmetry of jade refers to whether the jade is skewed up and down or left and right; the length-to-width ratio has a great influence on the outline, and the size of the raw material will affect the final effect of the carving; the thickness reflects the size of the jade, and thin jade has a lower price; the curvature refers to the fluidity and flexibility of the jade lines. The natural and smooth lines make the jade seem more spiritual.

6. The standard of good jadeite - the clarity of jadeite

The clarity of jade is the amount of flaws inside the jade. The relationship between jade clarity and value mainly considers whether the defects affect the beauty and durability of jade. The obviousness of the flaws includes color, shape, location and size, and their impact on the overall appearance of the jade.

7. The standard of good jadeite - cracks

The cracks in jade refer to the gaps between jade crystals that are not filled with solid objects, not the lines in jade. Cracks in jade are very harmful to its durability. According to the analysis of mechanical properties, they are divided into tensile cracks and shear cracks, and tensile cracks are more harmful. Cracks in jade can easily cause jade to break after long-term wearing.
