The Chinese always like to endow jade with various beautiful qualities and metaphors, so owning a piece of beautiful jade is the dream of many Chinese. There are many kinds of jade, which are dazzling and overwhelming. Among them, the representative of jadeite is jadeite produced in Myanmar. From the Buddha in the Qing Dynasty to Soong Mei-ling in modern times, all of them were obsessed with jade and collected a large number of jade products. In recent years, the jade market has become increasingly hot, and various fakes have emerged in an endless stream, so it is very necessary for us to keep our eyes open and master a simple, fast and effective identification method, which can effectively avoid being deceived and suffering economic losses.

Now I will teach you a very simple, fast and effective identification method. It can be used to identify anything from rough materials to pendants. You don’t need to know how to look at the quality, water color, or the field, fog, color bands, moss, skin, or even what the ABC grades of jade are. You just need to know how to read the scale and use a calculator. Okay, now I will teach you in detail, please read carefully.

The first step is to prepare an electronic scale with high precision, as shown in the figure:

The second step is to prepare a container filled with water. The water level should be about two-thirds. Be careful not to fill it too full or too little, as shown in the picture.

The fourth step is to prepare the jadeite to be identified, string it with a thin string and make sure it can be lifted up. For convenience, I got a questionable jade ring from a friend. The color is very strange. You can take a look.

Step 5: Place the jadeite in the container, let it sink to the bottom, and then record the weight, like this:

The sixth step is to lift the jade and let it float in the water. Be careful not to let it touch the bottom or rise above the water surface, and certainly not let the water overflow (this is why you are asked to fill two-thirds of the water). As shown in the figure:

Step 7. Now we get two weight values, one is the weight at the bottom and the other is the suspended weight. By dividing the suspended weight by the weight at the bottom, we get the density of the jade, which is 56.6÷17.2=3.290697674. This means that the density of this jade ring is only 3.29, while the standard density of jade is 3.33. Therefore, this jade is questionable. It is possible that it has been bitten by acid and dyed, and its density has changed and decreased. If you don’t believe it, you can verify it. Take another bracelet core and measure the density using the same method. See picture:

Using 117.6÷35.2=3.340909091, this number is completely close to the standard density of jadeite 3.33.

If you don’t believe it, you can try it again and test it with a bracelet core with a more vivid color.

Using the same method, divide it, 105.4÷32.0=3.29375, and the density is only 3.29, less than 3.33.

So, just remember that the standard density of jade is 3.33. If there is any difference from this number, you must keep your eyes open. In recent years, there are still many people who use water foam to impersonate ice jadeite. Many people have been deceived and suffered heavy losses. This method can be used to quickly distinguish between water foam and jadeite. The density of water foam is only 2.66, far less than that of jadeite. Just simply weigh it and calculate the density, and the fakes will be exposed. This method is also applicable to the identification of raw materials. You only need to enlarge the electronic scale and the container filled with water. The method is the same, and you can quickly determine whether it is fake leather or whether it is a symbiotic stone. This method is actually a simple application of Archimedes' principle. It is a quick way to measure the density of an object. It is not only effective for jadeite, but also for measuring pure gold or silver products. As long as the density is wrong, there must be a problem!
