What are the techniques used to fake the color of jadeite? How to identify?

When faced with fakes, people are both disgusted and helpless. With the development of production technology and the advancement of science and technology, counterfeiting technology has become more and more mature, and the high-quality imitation products produced are becoming more and more realistic.

Since the production of fakes is low-cost, cheap and profitable, it attracts some profit-seeking illegal speculators to take risks. Therefore, despite the regulatory authorities' stepped-up crackdown, fakes still emerge in an endless stream. Against this backdrop, the jade industry is also full of fakes, making it increasingly difficult to distinguish between the real and the fake.

Today I will take you to understand what are the counterfeiting techniques of jadeite?

The most important factor in judging the quality of jade is its color. Generally speaking, the greener the color, the higher its value. Therefore, there is a saying in the industry that a one-point difference in color means a ten-fold difference in price.

One color fake

1. Color brushing

There are many types of color fraud, the most obvious and easiest to identify is this kind of color fraud

Counterfeiting methods

It is to take a piece of low-end colorless jade, wash and dry it first, then lightly apply a layer of green on the jade, gradually thicken it several times, and when you feel the color is almost right, leave it to dry, then use the kind of white nail polish with glue, evenly apply it once or twice, and dry it to become a genuine product.

This kind of fake jade is bright green in color, which can easily catch the buyer's eye and mislead consumers who know nothing about jade.

Identification method

As long as you use a knife to gently scrape the jade, the nail polish will be easily scraped off, and flakes of gelatin will appear on the ground.

《II》Color-coated jadeite

Color-coated jade is also called dressed jade. As the name suggests, it is faked to make ordinary jade articles dress up in the color of natural jade.

This counterfeiting method is highly technical, so it is not only difficult for ordinary consumers to distinguish the real from the fake, but sometimes even industry insiders are deceived, and unscrupulous merchants even sell it as natural jade.

Counterfeiting methods

First, import some clear water paint from France or Thailand, then take a piece of colorless but good-looking jadeite, and lightly apply the clear water paint on the surface of the jadeite until the color is similar to that of natural jadeite, and then let it dry. After drying, the jadeite will be the same as real natural jadeite. If you don’t use tools, it is difficult to distinguish the real from the fake with your naked eyes. This kind of fake jadeite is also called coated jadeite.

Identification method

(1) Magnifying glass

The most direct, simple and effective way to identify jade is to carefully examine it through a magic mirror. Under normal circumstances, small flaws are difficult to escape the magic mirror of a magnifying glass, and basically they can be revealed under a magnifying glass.

The same is true for coated jadeite. Even if you make it look realistic, you can still see the flaws under a magnifying glass. Under a magnifying glass, coated jadeite cannot be seen to have color roots. The fake green is mostly scattered, and some even have a waxy surface.

(2) Burning

Since coated jade is made by brushing a layer of clear water paint on ordinary jade, thus forming a thin film on the jade, you can light a match or cigarette and use it to burn the surface of the jade. If there is such a coated jade, its surface film will be burned, thus revealing its true self.

(3) Ironing

Pour boiling water on the surface of jade, the film of coated jade will be scalded and cracked.

Anyone who knows a little about jade knows that jade is most afraid of high temperatures, because high temperatures can destroy the internal molecular structure of jade. Therefore, although these two methods are practical, they are not recommended.

shave

You can also use a knife to gently scrape the surface of the jade. If it is coated jade, the coating will be scraped off.

Although this method is easy to use, it is not advisable because it will also damage the surface of the jade.

So although there are ways to identify it, most of them are not practical, which gives counterfeiters room to act boldly. Therefore, consumers can easily be cheated by this kind of coated jade.

Three strong acid immersion

By soaking inferior jade raw materials or finished products in strong acid and other chemical raw materials, impurities between jade grains can be effectively removed, so that inferior jade with more impurities, lack of transparency or cracks can be turned into clean and transparent jade, and the color you want can also be added.

Although the color and transparency of the jadeite treated in this way are excellent, the molecular structure inside the jadeite is greatly damaged due to the action of the strong acid, causing the crystal structure to become loose and lose its firmness. Therefore, before it is made into a finished product, it must be reinforced with epoxy resin.

When you first wear this kind of jade, it feels very high-end and looks like A-grade jade.

However, after wearing for a long time, the epoxy resin will age, the color will gradually turn yellow, and many cracks will appear, making it fragile and easy to break, causing huge economic losses to consumers.

Moreover, long-term wearing will also have side effects on people's health, losing the real meaning of wearing jade. Because we Chinese like to wear jade, one of the important reasons is that jade contains a variety of trace elements that are meaningful to the body, which can keep the wearer's body and mind in a good state.

Therefore, we must be cautious when purchasing jadeite, look more, consult more, and it is best to find a professional organization to help you identify it. Try to minimize economic losses
