Jadeite worth tens or hundreds of dollars can be sold to you for thousands just by polishing it with this! Experts reveal the secrets!

A jade friend sent me a bracelet and asked me to help identify it. Dozens of photos below:

I believe that many jade lovers have already noticed that the jade bracelet colored with polishing powder, coupled with the embellishment of the lighting in the counter, has definitely increased its appearance several times, not to mention the price, it can easily increase tenfold.

Fortunately, this bracelet was only purchased by that jade friend at the counter, and he has not yet taken action despite being tempted.

Even so, this jade friend was still frightened after hearing my explanation.

Brother San wants to say something here:

Using polishing powder and jade polishing are not the same concept. The polishing powder here is used to add color.

What we are going to talk about today is this kind of fake jadeite with added colored polishing powder!

Whether it is a person or an object, appearance is what matters.

If a person is not good-looking, he or she will try to change it.

To cover up the external defects, you can use makeup; to cover up the internal defects, you need bone cutting or plastic surgery. The same is true for jade.

The function of polishing powder is to make up and enhance the color of jade. The difference is that this beautifying effect can last for a long time, at least until the jade you bought has passed the return period.

The main purpose of adding colored polishing powder is to enhance the color of jadeite.

The value of colored jade will always rise several levels. The more powder it adds, the darker the color will be. The flaws in the fraud will become more obvious. This is referring to the fake jadeite that was made using polishing powder in the past.

Today, with the popularity of the Internet, jade has become more and more well-known to jade lovers, and its quality, price and counterfeiting methods have gradually become transparent.

The previous practice of heavy powder fraud has been abandoned. Today's polishing powder is used for light makeup, darkening the saturation of colored areas to make the tone look more natural. It is difficult for ordinary jade lovers to distinguish it when they encounter it.

The jadeite that is processed using polishing powder is either low-grade or mid-grade, and the jadeite is processed into colors such as green, purple, spring color, etc.

Many jade lovers know that ultraviolet fluorescence can be used to determine whether the jade is natural A-grade.

However, this polishing powder has no color under ultraviolet fluorescence and cannot be seen at all.

Of course, if we use a 10x magnifying glass, we can still see the difference.

The picture above is the most common green polishing powder, which is composed of heavy metal oxides and is toxic. Be sure to wear a professional dust mask when processing.

Jadeite processed with this polishing powder will cause infection if it touches sensitive skin when worn on the wrist or hung around the neck.

This kind of jadeite with added polishing powder is very easy to identify, but how could the identification certificate that comes with this kind of jadeite with polishing powder not be tampered with.

If you take it to a formal appraisal agency, the appraisal certificate issued will have it clearly stated.

The special test column on the appraisal certificate is clearly written, and it is easy to see whether there is polishing powder or not.

The color of jadeite processed in this way is improved to a higher level, and the price soars several times in an instant.

But over time, this added color will slowly fade back to its original appearance.

Normal jade carving also has a polishing process, and a kind of powder is also used, but it is not called polishing powder.

The powder used for polishing nowadays is called diamond powder or diamond powder. This is normal polishing material. Jadeite that uses polishing powder is not A-grade jadeite.

Jade polishing is the process of rubbing jade with diamond powder or diamond powder to grind the surface of jade into a fine and smooth surface, thereby increasing the jade's ability to reflect light and showing the exquisite texture of jade. It is a normal processing procedure.

Using polishing powder is a completely different step.

Today I will tell you in detail the specific steps of using polishing powder to fake:

Step one: Apply ointment.

Coat the surface of the carved jade with a layer of paste-like polishing powder. The green one is chromium oxide, a heavy metal oxide which is toxic. Wear a dust mask during processing.

Step 2: Sanding

Grind the surface with a 2000-grit grinding wheel.

The first and second steps must be repeated at least twice, and even now, they are repeated multiple times in pursuit of the effect.

Step 3: Brush with a stiff bristle brush.

Apply polishing powder to the surface of the jade and then polish it with a hard-bristle brush.

Step 4: Modification.

The areas where the polishing was not perfect in the previous processes are re-colored and polished to complete the modification.

Generally, bamboo is used, dipped in polishing powder, and bamboo chopsticks are used for larger areas. If it is a small area, a toothpick is used.

Step 5: Hard leather polishing.

The jadeite that has been completely coated with polishing powder is polished with hard leather. Cow leather is mostly used in China, while elephant leather is mostly used in Myanmar.

Step 6: Cleaning.

Clean off the polishing powder remaining on the processed jade.

Ultrasonic machines are mainly used for cleaning, and alcohol is used to wipe areas that cannot be cleaned.

Step 7: Waxing.

Generally speaking, applying wax on the surface of jade is a kind of protection for jade.

However, the purpose of waxing here is to seal the polishing powder, increase the retention time of the polishing powder, and maintain the appearance of the colored jade as long as possible.

Step 8: Blow dry.

Use a professional hair dryer to quickly dry the processed jade and seal the color perfectly.

This kind of polishing powder coloring is the most easily detected method of jade counterfeiting.

Some jade lovers may wonder why more advanced counterfeiting methods are not used?

It's simple, it's a matter of cost.

The cost of counterfeiting by coloring with polishing powder is low, and the main target is jadeite with an original price of tens or hundreds of dollars. The main targets of deception are also new jade lovers.
