The story of jadeite started from that time

In a royal palace in South Asia, there is a beautiful emerald Bodhi leaf. It is crystal clear, emerald green, without any impurities; the most peculiar thing is that in this Bodhi leaf, you can see clear veins, which penetrate the heart of the leaf, just like a real leaf. If you hang it on a tree in the Imperial Garden on a cloudy day, you will not be able to find any trace of the jade even with your sharpest eyes. But don't be in a hurry, as soon as the sun shines, you will be able to find it immediately. The bright green light it pours out will dye the shade of the trees green.

There is a story about Emerald Bodhi: a poor mountain family made a living by growing pineapples. The father told his son Mohan that his ancestors used to drive a caravan to the north to sell groceries. On a return trip, because the weight on both sides of the horse's back was uneven, the old man picked up a stone and pressed it on one side of the saddle bag. After returning, someone recognized the stone and said it was a piece of jade. It was sold for a good price, and then Grandpa married Grandma, and our family was born. Mohan said, "I will go to the north to look for emeralds."

The old father said: "Many people have gone to look for jade. Those who return empty-handed are considered lucky. Countless people have died on the way." Mohan said: "I won't come back to see you if I can't find the jade." Mohan climbed countless mountains, waded through countless red rivers, and finally found a mountain. The owner of the mountain said, "There may be jade hidden in the cave. You dig ore for me. If you do a good job, I will pay you a piece of ore as wages at the end of the year." Mohan said, "Is the ore jade?"

The mountain owner said, "Young man, that depends on your luck. The ore is covered by a layer of sand skin, and no one knows what is hidden inside. Digging for jade is a gamble of luck. If you don't want to do it, get off the mountain."

Mohan stayed. The mine is as narrow as a snake cave, and mining is difficult and dangerous. At the end of the year, the owner of the mountain said, "I keep my word. Pick up a piece of ore." Mohan picked up a piece of ore the size of a goose egg. He originally wanted to take the ore home, but if he traveled thousands of miles back and opened the ore and found that it was just ordinary stone, his father would be so disappointed! Thinking of this, he stayed and got another piece of ore a year later. The chance of finding jade in ore is perhaps only one in ten thousand. In order to have a better chance of obtaining jade, Mohan worked hard for sixteen years. He decided to go home. The ore was packed into sacks, heavy as gold. The mountain owner said, "It's inconvenient for you to walk such a long way. I will help you to open the ore. If it is stone, you can throw it away; if it is jade, you can take it away." Mohan agreed.

The mountain owner unwrapped the ore piece by piece. The first piece was a stone, the second piece was a stone, the third piece was still a stone... He solved fourteen pieces in a row, and the ground was full of broken stones. The mountain owner said, "You have bad luck. You should sell me the last two pieces of ore. The money from one stone is enough for your travel expenses, and the money from the other one is enough for you to build a thatched house when you go home." Mohan said, "Thank you for your kindness, sir, but I will only sell you one piece of ore. I will take the remaining piece home to let my old father see it." The mountain owner gave Mohan the money for one stone, and then unwrapped the piece of ore that Mohan returned to him. With the sound of tools and the falling of sand skin, an egg-shaped jadeite as blue-green as a pool of water appeared in front of everyone. Amid the amazement and regret of the crowd, Mohan went on his way without looking back. At the market, he saw a huge lizard being played with and sold. He asked, "Why not let it go back to the bamboo forest?"

The man said, "If you buy it, you can put it back into the bamboo forest. If you don't want to let it go, you can use its meat to make soup." Mohan saw the resentful look in the green lizard's eyes and felt pity for it. He took out his only money and bought the monitor lizard. When he arrived at the bamboo forest, he released the monitor lizard and ate wild fruits before going home. Unexpectedly, the monitor lizard refused to leave and always stayed by his side, sleeping around him at night and protecting him from attacks by wild beasts. Although monitor lizards look clumsy, they can actually crawl very fast in jungles and mountains, almost "flying over the grass".

When Mohan returned home, his father was already very old. Mohan said, "Dad, I brought a stone that might be jade, the same one our ancestor brought back. Tomorrow, we will open it in front of the villagers. If it is jade, everyone in the village will have a share." The father touched the ore and said, "Son, let alone anything else, you are back, this is better than any jade!" The next day, the villagers prepared elephant-foot drums, and once the jade appeared, they would beat the drums to celebrate. Unexpectedly, when everything was ready, the ore suddenly disappeared. So someone said, "What ore? You have been fooling around for more than ten years. You must be dreaming!" The old father kept explaining, "I saw the stone." But no one believed him.

Mohan thought for a long time and seemed to have found the answer, but he said nothing. Due to years of hard work and trekking, Mohan fell ill. In order to make up for his guilt towards his father when he was not at home, he worked twice as hard. His illness was getting worse, and someone suggested that he chop up the monitor lizard and boil it into soup to replenish his body. Mohan refused to do anything. When Mohan was dying, he said to his father: "Please treat the monitor lizard well. If it refuses to leave, wait until it dies, then cut it open and bury it next to me."

After Mohan died, the monitor lizard stopped eating and drinking and stayed beside Mohan's grave. A few years later, it became as thin as a roll of firewood and died quietly one night. The old father cut open the monitor lizard. In its belly, a huge piece of jade was seen. Due to the corrosion of body fluids, the mineral sand skin has been completely peeled off, revealing its crystal clear and flawless texture; the peristalsis of the stomach and intestines has cut the jade into the auspicious shape of a Bodhi leaf; the monitor lizard finally stopped eating and drinking, and its dried internal organs tightly wrapped around the jade, engraving delicate patterns on it, like the veins of a Bodhi leaf. Later, the king learned about this strange thing and gave the mountain people a lot of food and cloth in exchange for Mohan's father's treasures.
