Many people like jade and want to know more about it. However, jade has a long history and there is a lot of related knowledge. It is easy to accidentally confuse some concepts that seem similar but are actually very different, resulting in buying inferior products or even fakes. Now, Lan Yu will take you to understand those jade concepts that have similar literal meanings but are actually very different. Glossy Vs Glue Jade's luster is an optical phenomenon visible to the naked eye. Specifically, it refers to the white, soft, hazy light on the surface of jade after being affected by light. It may appear as long as the jade's water quality and transparency are good enough. Jadeite stickiness means that jadeite looks like a piece of solidified glue. When the jadeite is rotated, it looks like flowing glue due to the effect of surface light. For jade to become sticky, the crystal particles inside must be small and not randomly arranged. This phenomenon often occurs in glass-type and ice-type jade, and it may also occur in some oily green jade with finer and denser particles. When the crystal particles inside jade are small and arranged compactly and regularly, it is the effect of luster. Similarly, when the particles are arranged irregularly, it is the effect of glue. From this perspective, it is difficult for glue and luster to coexist; but on the other hand, glue and luster can also coexist, in which case the effects of both luster and glue are slightly inferior, the luster will look softer, and the gluey feeling on the surface will not be so strong. Fluorescence vs. The first thing to understand is that there is no connection between "fluorescence" and "fluorescence". The fluorescence is because glass-type or ice-type jade has a very strong glass luster due to its high water quality and transparency, making the jade look crystal clear and fluoresce when light passes through it. This is what we mentioned earlier. Fluorescence refers to the fluorescence emitted by jade under ultraviolet or infrared light. Generally, natural jade that has not undergone any artificial treatment has no fluorescence. Jade that shows fluorescence is most likely to be B-grade, C-grade, or B+C-grade jade, so be careful. Glueing vs. Glue Injection There is only one word difference, but the essence is worlds apart. As mentioned before, the gluey jade is formed because the crystals that make up the jade are fine and disorderly. It is a natural phenomenon. Jade that can be glued is generally of high quality. Jadeite injection with glue is a method of optimizing jadeite, or more seriously, a method of counterfeiting. Jadeite injection with glue is to acid-wash and dissolve some jadeite with poor texture and more colors, and then inject glue to make the jadeite look fuller and brighter. Waxing vs Dipping On the surface, there seems to be no difference in the methods of waxing and dipping jade in wax, but in fact, there is a huge difference in the techniques. Jade waxing is to slightly heat the jade shortly after polishing, then melt the paraffin wax onto the surface of the jade, and then wipe it evenly with a rag after the paraffin wax condenses. Jade waxing is recognized in the jade industry and national jewelry standards. It is considered a surface deflection of jade rather than a jade treatment. Although the purpose of jade wax dipping is similar to that of waxing, the techniques are quite different. Jade wax dipping is also known as "stewing wax" or "boiling wax" in the industry. It means putting the polished jade product into a boiling paraffin solution and boiling it. During the boiling process, the jade expands due to the heat, the gaps between the jade crystals increase, and the paraffin melts into the gaps between the crystals, thereby changing the jade's water quality, improving the water head and quality of the jade, so as to obtain a better sales price. A difference of one word can lead to a huge mistake. When appreciating jadeite, it is better to distinguish the concepts clearly.
