Jade is a natural mineral with extremely high hardness and very small production. Its price has been rising year by year and it has become the most valuable investment gem in China. However, when buying jadeite, you often hear people say that A-grade, B-grade, and C-grade jadeite are difficult to distinguish from the real ones, which makes people dazzled.

Today, let’s simply popularize some knowledge about jadeite. The A-grade, B-grade, and C-grade jade mentioned here are not the grades of jade, but the differences between authenticity.

Identification of A goods

Grade A jade is a genuine natural product. Its composition, structure, color and transparency all retain the properties of its natural state. It has only been changed in shape through mechanical cutting, grinding and polishing. It is real jade that has been wax-impregnated and heat-treated and has collection value.

Jadeite quality is the characteristic of natural jade. The cleavage plane of jade mineral will flash at a certain angle, commonly known as fly wings.

When natural jade is observed under magnification, it will have yellow, black, and brown impurities inside. It has a pure glass luster and natural layered colors. Jade has a high density and feels heavy in the hand; it is not light. When observed through a magnifying glass, the surface can be seen to have smooth raised and sunken orange peel texture.

B-grade jadeite

B-grade jadeite refers to those jadeites that originally have poor water quality and color. They are artificially soaked and bleached in strong acid to release some impurities inside the jadeite, and then injected with high-molecular polymers using some high-tech means to improve their water quality and color. The internal structure of this kind of jade treated with chemicals has been destroyed. Although it looks watery and free of impurities, its luster is obviously dull and dull, showing a resinous texture and waxy luster. If you zoom in and observe the surface carefully, you will find traces of strong acid corrosion, and there are continuous web-like acid etching patterns, commonly known as "spider webs".

C-grade jadeite

C-grade jadeite refers to colorless or light-colored jadeite that has been chemically treated or radiated to add or change its original color. The seemingly bright colors of this jade are actually artificially colored and are generally unstable and easy to fade.

Here are some identification methods:

1. Natural light identification method:

The color, water head, ice cracks and black spots of the "jade" can all be seen. If the "jade" has been washed with strong acid, you can see that its surface will have obvious reticulation and uneven granularity. The uneven feeling can be determined to be a B-grade jade.

2. Magnifying glass identification method:

It can be used to observe the internal structure of "jade", and can also scientifically identify whether it is dyed or burned. If there are bubbles inside, it is an item that has been dyed and is C-grade jade, which is a fake.

3. Identification method using ultraviolet light: You can buy a ultraviolet lamp. Because the internal structure of artificially dyed "jade" has been pickled, injected with glue, etc., it will form a fluorescent effect with the light after dyeing. If it is irradiated with an ultraviolet light and fluoresces, it is a dyed item, that is, B+C goods.

4. Charles filter identification method: If the jadeite that has been acid-washed and injected with glue appears purple, dark red or red under the Charles filter, it can be determined that it is a fake.

5. National Identification Law:

The most reliable method is to send it to the National Appraisal Center for staff to conduct testing. No matter the size of the "jade", it can be appraised. As long as the appraisal report on the appraisal book is A-grade, it is all-natural A-grade jade.
