What kind of jade material can be used to make Buddha statues?

First of all, the material base must be clean, with sufficient water head, less cotton and fewer cracks! The most important thing in making jade carvings of Buddha statues is "cutting the face". The face of the Buddha statue is the soul of the entire jade carving, so the material must be clean so that it is easy to find the position for cutting the face!

As shown below: This is a piece of ice-glutinous jadeite with perfect full color. For such high-quality materials, jade carvers usually first consider carving Buddha statues. They can consider making a formal Guanyin, but making a formal Guanyin will waste a lot of materials. In line with the principle of maximizing the use of materials, it is designed as a character brand, which should be liked by customers. The design is as shown below:

Secondly: the material should be delicate and clean! The texture of the material used to make Buddha statues is very demanding. The flesh must be fine and clean so that the jade carver can make the expression on the Buddha's face lifelike when carving the face. If the flesh is not fine, it will be easy to damage the facial features when carving the facial features, thus affecting the entire work. For example, if the material is rough, it may be impossible to carve out delicate facial features; if the crystals of the material are large, the carved face may look like a long face!

As shown in the picture below, according to the designed lines, use a gong machine to grind out the shape of the pendant and carve out the Buddha's posture! The outline of the Buddha statue theme has now roughly emerged. At this time, you need to change to a smaller drill bit to grind it!

Use a smaller diamond drill bit to further grind along the rough blank. Because the drill bit used now (about 3MM in diameter) is relatively large, it is only possible to further improve the outline of the Buddha statue. After the facial features, crown and clothes are polished, we will replace them with a smaller drill bit (about 0.5MM in diameter) to continuously improve these parts and make the lines smooth. In this way, the entire front part of the Buddha statue is completed, as shown below!

After completing the front theme, the jade carver will generally carry out corresponding "water diversion" treatment according to the water quality of the material, so that the finished product will be more translucent and look more moist and lustrous! "Diverting water" is also an important skill for jade carvers. If “water diversion” is done well, it will be the finishing touch; if it is not done well, it will be superfluous! The picture below shows the back of the pendant after water diversion treatment. The lines are elegant and respond to the theme!

Finally, the material must be old enough: everyone who plays with jade knows that old jade is simply jade that has been formed for a long time and it is not easy to mutate! For jade carving, another advantage of old jade is that it is hard enough, which makes it easier to carve out the lines of the figure when carving delicate areas. In addition, old jade usually becomes shiny after polishing, and is prone to having a gelatinous fluorescent feeling! For Buddha statues, if they can be polished and have glue, they will appear more spiritual!
