What is the meaning of jade cabbage? How did it become a rare treasure?

Jade has many uses. It is not only used to make pendants, bracelets, and rings for decorating the human body, but it can also be processed into ornaments and placed as furniture in the home. With different carved patterns, jade ornaments also have various meanings. Among them, jade cabbage is the most popular, extremely valuable and has the best meaning of all ornaments. It has several festive meanings, so it has been loved by people for a long time.

Gathering wealth: Chinese cabbage is pronounced similarly to “bai cai” (a hundred fortunes), so placing it at home or at the entrance of a company has the meaning of attracting wealth, gathering wealth, and accepting wealth from all directions.

Displaying wealth: Jade cabbage ornaments were originally items used for display, so placing jade cabbage at home also represents the coming of wealth, prosperity and good fortune.

Saving wealth: The shape of cabbage is wrapped in layers of leaves, which also means wrapping up wealth layer by layer and protecting it. Therefore, jade cabbage also has the meaning of saving wealth.

Innocence: Jade cabbage usually has a green outer surface and a white stem with distinct color boundaries, thus it also symbolizes innocence.

However, the reason why jade cabbage has become a rare treasure is certainly not enough just because of some beautiful meanings. In fact, the reason why jade cabbage has such a noble influence in China is closely related to a certain period of history. In the National Palace Museum in Taipei, there is a jade cabbage. It is a national historical relic and the "king" among all jade cabbages. It is precisely because of it that the influence of all jade cabbages has been enhanced.

This national treasure-level jade cabbage is a jade product from the late Qing Dynasty. From a distance, it looks almost indistinguishable from a real cabbage, which shows the superb level of its processing technology. In addition, it is unique, with two insects carved on it, making the cabbage look more interesting and lively. This cabbage jadeite is not only carved with superb craftsmanship, it also has a very noble history. It is said that it was the dowry of Concubine Jin, the concubine of Emperor Guangxu, and is a true royal item. It is no wonder that it has become a national historical relic.

There are far more jade cabbages from the Qing Dynasty than this one. There are also two smaller "little cabbages" in Taipei. Although they are not as well-known as the jade cabbage, they are also historical relics. In the Forbidden City, there is also a treasured jade cabbage from the Qing Dynasty.
