A few years ago, I accompanied the CPPCC delegation to Yunnan for an inspection and passed through Ruili, the jade capital of China. On the way, a tour guide who was well-versed in jade and had published a booklet talked to us about common knowledge about jade. Everyone was very interested and suddenly their eyes were opened. They kept saying it was a great pleasure and they had learned a lot. Old Zhan, who is good at "second translation", has sorted out the conversation in the car and published it below for the readers. Question: What is jade? Why is the value so high? Answer: Jadeite is a kind of jade. Jade is divided into hard jade and soft jade. Generally speaking, the harder the jade, the higher the price. Jadeite is a type of hard jade, so its price is relatively high. A few years ago, Christie's Hong Kong auctioned a necklace consisting of 27 jadeite beads for HK$72 million. All in all, a piece of jadeite that is only slightly bigger than a soybean is worth more than 3 million Hong Kong dollars! Therefore, people call jadeite the "king of jade". He also commented that "Gold has a price but jade is priceless." Why is jade so valuable? In fact, the reason is very simple. First of all, this thing is beautiful, with beautiful color, shape and imagery. Secondly, this thing is rare, and as we all know, rare things are valuable. If something is extremely rare, its value must be extremely high. In nature, good jade is extremely rare, so its value is particularly high. Question: We are all laymen, how can we distinguish between good and bad? Answer: There are ten major factors in evaluating the quality of jadeite. Seed, water, color, purity, appearance, meaning, art, quantity, fate, and price. This is a professional requirement. Dear committee members, this should be a hobby and you only need to understand the first four items. In other words, as long as you understand and clarify the type, water, color and purity of jade, your "jade blindness" will be eliminated. Question: What is seed? Let’s start from here. Answer: The type refers to the genes of this piece of jade, its unique internal properties, mainly its fineness and tightness, which is the first element in appreciating jade. Jade types are divided into six categories, from high to low. One is glass type. It is like glass and very transparent. It is the one with the highest degree of fineness and compactness. The second is ice type. Like ice from very clean water. It is also transparent, but not as transparent as glass. The third is the glutinous variety. It's like glutinous rice porridge that's cooked very thin and thick. It can also be transparent, but to a lesser degree. The fourth is lotus root powder. Like the sticky lotus root starch we usually cook. Slightly thicker than glutinous rice porridge. Five is bean seeds. It's like cooked beans, a little transparent, but only slightly, and rather turbid. Six is the type of porcelain. The texture is like ceramic, it has no transmittance, only the surface reflects light. As the saying goes: "Experts look at the species, laymen look at the color." Therefore, species is the root of jadeite’s value. A piece of jade, if it is of good quality, will be valuable. If the crops are not planted well, nothing else can be achieved. Q: How do you explain the second criterion, water? Answer: Water, also known as water head, refers to the moistness of jade, that is, its transmittance and reflectivity to light. Jade with good water is called "thick water head" and vice versa, it is said "shallow water head." Jade with good water head, when viewed from a distance, looks like a beautiful glass body with a drop of rolling dew inside; it looks vivid and juicy when shaken by hand. Water and seeds are both related and different. Jade experts divide water into ten levels, namely 10% water, 9% water, 8% water... down to 1% water. If there is no water, it is called dry goods, it looks dry and gray, and the quality is much worse. Question: Now that we understand the meaning of water, let’s talk about the third element, color. Answer: When it comes to color, it is very easy to understand, it is color. The colors of jadeite can be divided into more than ten categories according to their preciousness, including green, purple (called spring color in the jargon), floating blue flowers, red, yellow, blue, bean color, cyan, and brown. There is no distinction between high and low in appearance, so why can we distinguish between them? Firstly, this is based on the aesthetic tradition formed by people over the years. Secondly, it also depends on the rarity of the color mineral in nature. Rare ones are valuable, while abundant ones are cheap. Green jade is more in line with people's aesthetic tastes, and it is very rare in nature, so it is particularly precious. Speaking of color, there is another very important concept, which is the distribution of color on jade, more or less, thick or light, thick or thin. The more color distributed on a piece of jade, the richer, thicker, and more uniform the color is, the higher its value. Question: Color is easy to understand, let’s talk about the last element, purity. Answer: Net means clean, which refers to the purity of jadeite. Jade with high clarity is clear and refreshing, and looks very transparent and pure. Jade with low clarity can have cotton-like dots, lines or spots, and even some gray, brown and black impurities. This is called dirty color, which of course will greatly reduce its value. Question: Now that I have mastered the four elements, can I go to the store to choose jadeite? Answer: It’s mostly OK. Of course, if you want to buy a jade product that is more satisfactory, you also need to understand the appearance, that is, the quality. To understand the meaning is the symbol and connotation. To understand art is to understand the production process...but it doesn’t matter, you can gradually explore and summarize it slowly. As long as you have the four basics, you can enter the market boldly without taking too many detours. After hearing the introduction, everyone in the car suddenly became enlightened and was eager to try it out. When they saw a jade shop in front of them, everyone shouted "Stop, stop!" When the boss saw a group of customers coming, all with big bellies, gray hair, and extraordinary demeanor, he was overjoyed and immediately came up to them, took out an jade bracelet, put it on the counter and said, "Look, everyone, this is a good item of glass-type, eight-point water, emerald!" The product is genuine and the price is reasonable. This is a rare opportunity! He walked in front, took the jade bracelet, observed it for a while, and said in a leisurely voice, "Boss, this bracelet of yours is clearly between the glutinous and icy types, with at most three-tenths of water, and the color is not pure. The price is so high, who would buy it?" Haha, the boss took a look and thought, wow, here comes an expert! He nodded repeatedly and said, "Yes, yes, it's obvious that you are an expert. We are family and should not have different opinions. Please sit down and we can talk it over." That's about right. Old James smiled slightly and looked back at everyone. Everyone understood what was going on and looked at each other, hahahaha and laughed heartily! fcgc66 fcpf18 |
