Recognize the "three greens and three waters" of jadeite, and buy jade without losing money

In jade, there is a saying of “three greens and three waters”. "Three Greens" and "Three Waters" do not simply describe the color or texture of jade, but refer to the comprehensive characteristics of the combination of jade species, water and color. The “Three Greens” have no lack of color, and the “Three Waters” have no lack of water.

Jade "Three Greens"

1. Dry green

As the name suggests, this kind of jade has poor water content, looks dry, has low transparency, rough texture, and strong and bright colors. Most of them are full green, and most of them are accompanied by black spots (black impurities). Common colors of dry green jadeite include dark green and dark green.

The green color of dry green jadeite is full and pure, which makes many people prefer dry green jadeite. In order to make the quality of dry green jade better, merchants grind it into thin slices and inlay it into jewelry to sell. With the continuous closure of major mines in the past two years, the market price of dry green jadeite has been rising. The price of good quality dry green jadeite is still relatively high.

2. Anthocyanin

Literally speaking, huaqing is a type of jade with a very "flowery" color distribution. The colors inside the lavender jadeite have no fixed shape. Various colors such as green, white, and purple are intertwined in the jadeite, creating a uniform "disorder". The quality of Huaqing jade is relatively rough, and the water content is not enough. Its "blue and white" does not have a "floating" feeling, so its appearance is also average. You can understand Huaqing as dry green with better quality and water content but slightly worse color.

The quality of lavender jade is generally poor, and most of it is used to make pendants. It belongs to the middle and low-grade jade (it is not cheap after appreciating in recent years). However, there are a small number of anthocyanins with bright and pure colors, good water-release effects after polishing, and are very valuable.

3. Oil Green

The surface luster of Oily Green Jade is like oil, the color is grayish and bluish, and it looks waterless and oily. The texture of Oily Green Jade is delicate and its transparency is high. If evaluated from the perspective of quality alone, it is already an upper-middle-range jade. The color of oily green has never been very popular, but it matches the skin tone of the elderly very well, so its sales are not very popular.

The transparency and luster of Oily Green Jade are good, but compared with the mainstream green, the color of Oily Green is dark and gray, so the price has always been low. Some high-end oily green jadeite also looks steady and elegant, is very flattering to wear and has a high cost-effectiveness ratio.

Summary of the "Three Greens" of Jade

The "Three Greens" clearly summarize the characteristics of three different types of jade. Dry green is green but the water is very dry, and it is generally used to make "thin water material"; the flower green has mottled and uneven color distribution, and looks very "flowery" overall; the oil green has a dark and gray base color, good transparency and gloss, as if it had been soaked in oil.

The market price of "Sanqing" is mainly determined by the water head. It is possible that the water head of two treasures is only slightly different, but the price difference is very large. After all, it is full color. For those who like the emerald green color, it is considered a very cost-effective full green jadeite.

Emerald "Sanshui"

The "three waters" of jadeite refer to: blue water, green water, and clear water. "Three Waters" is actually a variation of Oily Green Jade. On the basis of good water quality, if the Oily Green Jade is blue in color, it is blue water; if it is green in color, it is green water; and if it is blue in color, it is clear water. Although "Sanshui" is a type of Youqing jade, it is far from being on the same level as Youqing jade.

1. Blue Water

Blue Water is a type of jadeite with a huge price variation, and its beauty also changes linearly. If it is a little more sunny, it appears very pure, and is called "sea blue" in the industry, and is very expensive; if it is a little gray, it is oily green or gray-blue, and is of poor quality and low price.

Blue water is one of the most common types of jade. Some people are particularly fond of "old blue water" and think that "old blue water" is more meaningful.

2. Green Water

Once you understand blue water, it will be easy to understand green water. Green Water is a green-colored oily green jadeite, but because the hue is still gray and blue, it does not look bright enough and there is still a very obvious difference.

Generally speaking, the price of green water is generally higher than that of blue water. After all, the emerald green color is more pleasing to the eye. The prices of high-end green water and blue water have always been comparable. High-end green water has a pleasing color, while high-end blue water is rare in the market and its price has been driven up by people who love blue water.

3. Clear water

The name Qingshui is very poetic, taken from the meaning of "clear sky after rain", which means that the jade looks like the sky after the rain, very clean, light gray-blue with a hint of green, refreshing and boundless.

The cultivation of Qingshui is very uniform, and the color is between blue water and green water, but it is completely different from blue water and green water. To be more precise, Qingshui is more like a bright, non-gray type of Youqing. The market price is neither very high nor very low, and businessmen often refer to Youqing as Qingshui.

Summary of the "Three Waters" of Jade

Everyone in the industry knows that violet is the most “light-dead” jadeite, but few people know that oily green is the most “light-alive” jadeite. "Three Waters" is the highest quality variety of Oil Green. In a good lighting environment, the blue water, green water and clear water are very beautiful and very attractive.

Jade is one of the jades with the richest colors and textures in nature. Jade with different structures and colors has its own different names. Knowing the different names of jade will help us better understand jade.
