How to select jadeite types and appreciate their prices!

What is the type of jade?

The kind refers to the texture of the jade material. Jade with fine texture is called old or old; jade with coarse and loose crystals is called tender. Because jade is a combination of polycrystals, it is vividly divided into glass, ice, egg white, glutinous, bean, etc. Glass type is the best, bean type and below are very poor and not desirable, fine glutinous type and above are good. Most of the materials used to make B-grade goods are coarse bean or lower grade.

Glass type: It looks like glass, is as transparent as glass, and has a fine structure and uniform particle size, giving people a feeling of ice-clear, exquisite, and dripping emerald water. It is characterized by fluorescence that can be seen with the naked eye and a crisp sound when knocked. Glass jade is the best type of jade, but its quantity is small, so it is extremely precious.

Ice type: The internal interwoven fiber structure is visible, the microcrystalline part is indistinguishable to the naked eye, and the cotton and structure are clearly distinct. It has excellent water head, good outer luster, similar texture to glass, slightly lower transparency, and often contains "white cotton" in the form of dots or small pieces.

Glutinous type: The internal structure is hazy and indistinguishable, and the cottoniness is inside the structure. The glutinous type with good water head can reach the level of ice type. In order to distinguish it from ordinary glutinous type, this is also called ice type bottom.

Egg white type: transparent like egg white, with a little turbidity. Glutinous type is more transparent, with uniform particles and sub-glass luster.

Glutinous type: The quality of the jade is like translucent glutinous rice soup, so it is called "glutinous".

Oil green type: refers to a darker green color. The color is not pure green, but mixed with gray or some blue. Therefore, it is not bright enough and appears dull and dull. Its color can range from light to dark. Because its surface gloss is like oily gloss, it is called oil green (oil immersed).

Bean type: The crystals are coarse and easy to see with the naked eye. The boundaries of the crystals can be clearly seen, and they look very much like mung beans. Due to the coarse grains, the transparency is often poor.

Golden thread type: refers to the color of jadeite distributed in thread-like shapes and arranged parallel to each other. We can clearly see that the green appears intermittently along a certain direction. Of course, the green stripes can be thick or thin.

Huaqing Type: The base color of jadeite is green or colorless, the green can be light green or dark green, and the shapes can be silky, veiny, lumpy or irregular. Although it is green, its distribution is extremely irregular, which is also the biggest feature of the Huaqing jadeite. The Huaqing jadeite is opaque to slightly transparent, with rough crystal grains. The shape of the columnar and granular mineral crystals can be easily identified with the naked eye. It lacks wateriness and its transparency is often poor due to its rough structure. Jade appreciation and exchange (131...2528...8768) Mr. Xu on WeChat.

Tielongsheng: Tielongsheng is the transliteration of Burmese, meaning full green. It is a kind of jadeite (controversial). It is produced in the Longken mining area of Myanmar and is also known as "Tianlongsheng". The texture is relatively uniform and fine, with relative water head (higher gloss). The main mineral components are jadeite and chromium-containing jadeite, which account for more than 90%, and high-quality iron ore accounts for more than 95%. Secondary minerals include a small amount of chrome amphibole, chromite, kaolinite, etc. The structures of Tielongsheng jade are mainly granular metamorphic structure, porphyritic granular metamorphic structure, columnar metamorphic structure, etc.

Between the “color” and “flower” of jadeite

Jade is called a gemstone because of its green color, which is unique in the jade family. Therefore, the "color" of jadeite only refers to green. Colors other than green are generally not called "colors", but only called "flowers".

The quality of green directly affects the price of jadeite, which can be described as “a 10% increase in color means a tenfold increase in price.” To judge the green color of jadeite, one should make a comprehensive observation of its type, water, color tone, etc. Check whether the color-showing part has sufficient water head; whether the particles of the color-causing mineral are fine and the structure is dense; and whether the color tone is pure. It can be summarized as: "thick, bright, correct, uniform, and lively" are good colors; "light, dark, biased, scattered, and dull" are poor colors. Among them, whether the color is correct or biased, and whether the color is lively or dull has important identification significance.

Yellow vs. Blue

Whether the green of jadeite is bright and pure depends on whether the yellow and blue components match. If the yellow is sufficient and the blue component is appropriate, the green will be yang and pure, which is called the correct color; if the yellow is insufficient or lacks yellow, and the blue component is excessive, the green will be yin and incorrect, and will be blue, which is called color deviation; if the yellow is excessive and the blue is insufficient, the green will be yellowish, superficial and unattractive, which is also called color deviation.

Although color deviation and color alignment have a great impact on the price of jadeite, the key still lies in the word "lively". The price of lively color is high, while the price of dull color is low. "Lively color" means that the colored parts are of good quality and have good water. If the species and water are poor, the color will be dull or lifeless. What is the concept of “sexy life”? She is like a pool of green water flowing, sparkling; she is a lush and verdant "water", crystal clear; she is like a firefly reflecting the night sky, green and brilliant. This is the real good jadeite with both color and species.

Color intensity

Jadeite should have a dark color, but the color should be moderate. If it is too dark, the color will look old, dull and gloomy, and the price will be low. The ones with uniform and pure color have high price. The price of dispersion that is scattered, lumpy, mottled, unevenly distributed, or contains impurities is not high. But you should not reject good jadeite with black spots because it is a natural mark. It is the color-causing element chromium in these black minerals that replaces the aluminum element through diffusion to appear green. These residual black spots are called "color roots" when they are small, "color residues" when they are large, and "ringworms" when they are even larger. Under the feet of ringworms, there is often high emerald green.

Named after "color"

The color of jadeite is ever-changing, but it can be named using figurative methods to divide it into standardized color grades. For example: the blue colors include spinach green, melon green, etc.; the yellowish colors include boxwood green, green onion green, etc.; the uniform and vivid green colors are named with the word "water", such as bright water green and blue water green, which are the best jadeite. There are also many other colors such as dark green, gray green, etc. The most common green is bean green, "ten greens and nine bean greens", which is of lower value.

Flower world

"Flowers" - blue flowers, bean flowers, water shield flowers, etc. make jade more colorful. The word "alive" is also important in judging flowers. For example, a bracelet with floating flowers should have lively and moving flowers, and only then will the bracelet be valuable. The flower of water shield is violet, and some people also regard the rich and bright color of water shield as a color. But "莼" is often mistakenly written as "春". "莼" is an aquatic herb whose flowers are pink, violet and jade-green, so it makes sense to call it "莼花". However, "春" has no color concept, so it cannot be used incorrectly.

Learning jade is a gradual process, and it is impossible to master jade in a short period of time. In addition to understanding and knowing, we also need to practice after remembering the theory. No matter whether we understand it or not, write down all the theories first and then put them into practice!
