Does the gray tones of glass-type jade affect the price?

The biggest feature of glass-type jade is its highest transparency, which is almost completely transparent and crystal clear. In the industry, glass-type jade is called the "oldest type" and the "most watery". "Water head" is divided into "one to ten water levels"; therefore, glass-type jadeite with full water head is very precious. But sometimes you will find that some white glass jadeite has gray tones.

Let’s take the colorless glass type as an example: the whiter the colorless glass type jade is, the more valuable it is; the older the type and the more water it has, the more precious it is. But if you observe carefully, you will see a grayish band at the bottom of the egg-shaped surface. This gray is fake gray, and it is the optical manifestation of a very old jadeite. It moves with the angle from which you look at the jade and is not fixed to any part of the jade. For example, old pit jade with such high water content will appear gray in a colorless egg-shaped jade and appear as a black band in emerald old pit jade. It is also not fixed to a certain part of the jade, but changes dynamically with the rotation of the jade.

A good glass-type jade egg-shaped surface should have three obvious stripes. The top one has strong fluorescence and a very wide fluorescent band, the middle one is a gray band, and the bottom one is a very bright line. Key points for identification: The narrower and more obvious the gray band is, the better the water quality; the thinner and brighter the bright line at the bottom, the better the water quality. Turning it over, the more obvious and clear the double rings are, the older the species is. At certain angles, the area that was originally a gray band also appears as the brightest fluorescent band.
