The first step in jade carving is to select materials. There are many raw materials on the market, but not every piece of raw material is suitable for creation. The jade carver will make his selection based on the raw material’s texture, color, and whether it has processing potential.

Once the raw material is selected, the jade carver will carefully observe the raw material. For gambling materials that have not been cut at all, we will consider whether there are cracks, the direction of the cracks, etc., and try to be confident.

Afterwards, the jade carver will think about what the raw material is suitable for carving based on his or her accumulated experience, and then draw a sketch on paper and modify it to check whether the plan is feasible.

The next step is to make a 1:1 clay sculpture of the idea for further investigation.

Then, according to the above ideas, cut the raw material into suitable blanks, draw the sketch on the blank with a marker, and start carving. After carving away a part, continue drawing and carving.

At this step, the jade carver is likely to encounter accidents, such as unexpected cracks, unintentional colors, etc. The jade carver will repeatedly modify his ideas during the carving process to avoid cracks or make good use of colors.

After carving is completed and polished, the jade carving is completed!
