Why is jade waxed?

Why is jade waxed?

Jade waxing refers to the practice of melting paraffin wax evenly onto the surface of the jade after the jade is polished, while the surface is slightly hot. After the temperature of the paraffin wax drops, use a soft cloth to remove the remaining paraffin wax on the surface of the jade.

For jadeite, the last step in the processing is waxing, because waxing is to apply a very thin layer of wax on the surface of the jadeite after polishing to make it smoother and more lustrous. This process does not change the various properties of the jadeite itself. Therefore, waxing is recognized in the jadeite industry and national jewelry standards. It belongs to the optimization of the jadeite surface, not jadeite treatment.

After being carved, jade jewelry is often waxed to increase its beauty, so jade jewelry cannot come into contact with acids, alkalis, and organic solvents. Even unwaxed jade jewelry should avoid long-term contact with acids and alkalis because they are mostly aggregates of minerals. These chemical reagents will corrode the surface of jade jewelry. Also, do not keep jade jewelry in a box for a long time. Over time, jade jewelry will "lose water" and become dry.

So, why does jade need to be waxed?

1. Protection

Jade is actually very fragile. During our daily wearing, it will come into contact with a large number of tiny particles, which will cause wear on the surface of the jade. If it comes into contact with oil, it will also corrode the surface of the jade. Over time, it will cause great damage to the jade. Waxing jade is equivalent to adding a layer of protection to jade. This protective layer can provide certain protection for jadeite

2. Beautification

We have seen that many jades can show a good gloss effect under the illumination of light. In addition to the quality of the jade itself, waxing can also enhance the gloss of jade. It is very helpful to improve the appearance of jade
