Traditional jade carving, influenced by the traditional Chinese cultural theory of "the sky is round and the earth is square", emphasizes neatness of square and round shapes. However, in recent years, free-form carving has gradually become popular in jade carvings, which saves material while presenting another kind of natural beauty. Today I would like to share with you an ice-floating flower jadeite "Viewing the World" to let you feel the beauty of the free-form carving. This is a piece of scrap material. The water quality is good, but the floating flowers around it are not so lively. Should I cut it or use it? See the jade carver's masterpiece! This piece of ice-floating jadeite is of first-class quality, water content and color. However, the irregular shape makes it difficult to make a neat label. If you want to force it, it will definitely be very wasteful. By comparing the front and back of the material, I found that although the green flowers on the other side were not as dense as the front, the shape was very easy to use, so I came up with the design inspiration of "Viewing the World". The design retains the natural shape of the original stone to the greatest extent possible, and only uses simple edge patterns to embellish the frame, which is very conserve of material. The posture of the Buddha statue is designed according to the shape on the left. The material is left white throughout, the smooth part is decorated with water waves, and the floating colors are designed with matching colors. The jade carver used bas-relief to outline the details of the Buddha statue, with fine carving and meticulous lines. What is even more clever is the use of colors for the floating green flowers. When carving, the jade carver ingeniously designed the lower left part of the floating flowers into a fish head, with the floating green as eyes; the few strands of green flowers a little bit above are cleverly designed into a green lotus. Looking at this piece of "Viewing the World", the jade carver broke through the traditional "round sky and square earth" and was bold in innovation, using jade according to the shape of the jade, and was careful with materials, craftsmanship, and attentiveness in the carving creation. Although the jade material is irregular, the value of the work is not reduced because it is carved based on the natural shape, which makes the artistic conception of the whole work more sublimated and touches people's hearts directly. The final product turned out so well that I couldn’t even imagine how good it turned out. Three parts material and seven parts work. Good carving can indeed enhance the work! fcgc66 fcgc99 |
