As we all know, jade carving is an artistic creation process of constructing a picture on a plane. A very important point about this work "The Greatest Hero" is that the master uses modern carving techniques such as painting, shallow and deep relief, and line carving on the plane to show the image of Guan Gong holding a Qinglong sword and riding a red rabbit horse. At the bottom right corner, he expands a profound sense of space. Although it is only a small space, it makes people feel that the battlefield is vast and endless. This fusion of Chinese and foreign art forms the greatest artistic feature of this work.

The master designed it as a battle scene from the Three Kingdoms period. Guan Gong holds a Qinglong sword in his hand, rides on a Red Hare, and stands on a steep slope with the sword across his chest. He looks high-spirited and determined to win. The whole picture is dominated by people and war horses, which is very visually impactful .

Holding a Green Dragon Crescent Blade and riding a Red Hare, this is Guan Gong's iconic image. The depiction of the war horse fully draws on the techniques of Western sculpture, full of volume and strength , and showing the war horse's brave spirit.

Looking at the distant view in the lower right corner, you can see thousands of troops with flying battle flags. The master has created a vivid picture with a strong sense of perspective and space in rich layers , as if the sound of drums is beating and war horses are neighing, which brings people unlimited imagination and aesthetic experience. Guan Yu was named the God of Wealth and War, so Zou Wantong designed a shallowly carved gate on the back of the sign, implying opening the door to welcome the God of Wealth.

From the perspective of artistic style, this work is extremely realistic and the details are very expressive. In order to achieve artistic realism, the author fully studied the different textures of the characters' clothing materials. Most of the clothes in the Three Kingdoms period were made of linen. Guan Yu's clothing in the work also follows historical facts. Everything from the hat to the pants are made of linen. During the Three Kingdoms period, armor was mostly made of hard leather and metal. In order to create the texture of leather armor, the master used needle and thread to express that it was made of leather. Even the stripes on the clothes can stand up to verification, all of which were adopted from the decorative style of the Han Dynasty. Therefore , the whole work, from the picture to the emotion to the details, can quickly pull the viewer into the turbulent era of "Romance of the Three Kingdoms" in the late Eastern Han Dynasty.

Guan Yu was both wise and brave. The Chinese people are familiar with many of his battle stories, such as "killing Hua Xiong with warm wine", "killing Yan Liang and Wen Chou", "passing five gates and killing six generals", "attending the banquet alone", "flooding seven armies", etc.

Although this black jade work does not explicitly indicate which battle Guan Yu experienced, it distills Guan Yu's spiritual temperament as a god of war. In addition, the black color of black jade itself is just right to express the gloomy time and space, the dangerous terrain and the majestic army. The solemn, vast and cold atmosphere further enhances the heroic spirit of the work.
