1. Appearance Identification Method

Appearance is an important indicator for identifying the authenticity of jadeite. The color of real jade is mostly light green, pale green or light yellowish green, and the color is uniform and delicate; while the color of fake jade is often monotonous and rough. Moreover, the texture of real jade is delicate, warm and heavy to the touch; while fake jade is relatively rough and feels light to the touch.

2. Density identification method

The density of jadeite is another important indicator for determining its authenticity. Generally speaking, the density of real jade is higher, about 3.30g/cm3; while the density of fake jade is lower, most of which are only about 2.7g/cm3. Therefore, the authenticity of jadeite can be preliminarily determined by weighing it.

3. Optical identification method

The optical identification method is a method of identifying the authenticity of jade by checking indicators such as the refractive index, birefringence and absorption spectrum of jade. Real jade has a higher refractive index and has double refraction; while fake jade often has no or very little double refraction.
