Is your jade real? 5 identification tips for you

Is your jade real? 5 identification tips for you

In recent years, as the price of jade has continued to rise, some merchants have taken the opportunity to mix some jade counterfeits into the jade market to make huge profits. Therefore, knowing how to identify genuine jade is the jade identification knowledge that you must master before purchasing jade. Below, I will briefly introduce some methods to identify real and fake jadeite, I hope it will be helpful to everyone.

1. Look at the color

The color of natural jade is natural and unevenly distributed. The colored part and the colorless part are naturally transitioned, with color roots, calm and not empty, and you will never get tired of looking at it. The artificially processed jade, because the jade structure is destroyed, its original optical properties will also change, resulting in the distribution of jade color without a sense of hierarchy, appearing frivolous and looking very unnatural.

2. Look at the gloss

Natural jade has a fine texture and may be transparent or opaque, with a glassy to oily luster on the surface. Jade with organic fillers such as resin or plastic often has a resinous luster, waxy luster, or a mixture of glassy luster with resin and waxy luster.

3. Look at the incision

For some jadeite with cuts, if you observe the cut under a high-power magnifying glass, you can see very obvious irregular fractures and the delicate internal structure; however, the cut surface of fake jadeite is still bright and shiny and does not have the characteristics of a natural jadeite cut.

4. Measure weight

Since the density of natural jade is relatively large, when we weigh jade in our hands, we will have a "hitting feeling", that is, a heavy feeling; while glass imitations appear light and airy, and we cannot feel the pressure of pressing down on our hands. An experienced jade connoisseur can basically determine whether the jade is real or fake just by weighing it.

5. Listen to the sound

This method is mainly for jade bracelets. Natural jade has a dense structure, so when you tap it gently, it will make a clear and pleasant sound; however, the structure of artificially processed jade is destroyed, and the mineral particles are filled with gum, so when you tap it gently, it makes a dull sound. The difference between the two is obvious.

Well, the above are five of the many methods that I have introduced to you for identifying genuine and fake jadeite. You may wish to refer to them when purchasing jadeite. If you find this useful, please give it a like and follow us. I love you!
