Jade snowflake cotton is so beautiful when carved like this!

Jade is formed under low temperature and high pressure conditions, buried deep underground for billions of years. With the natural movement of the earth's crust, jade will inevitably have various defects, including cracks, asbestos, etc. Will these defects affect the value of jade? The answer is of course yes. Although we cannot control nature, the creativity and imagination of jade carvers are unlimited, and they can often avoid these flaws through the design of the subject matter.

Today I will share with you a piece of snowflake cotton jadeite raw stone to see how the jade carver uses his creativity and imagination to make the asbestos in the jadeite no longer a flaw, but a finishing touch that adds the icing on the cake.

Look at this piece of jadeite raw stone. It has already been cut into slices and is the best material for figure badges. With a slight shaping, it can become the shape of a work of art. The water quality is impeccable, it is ice quality or above. Unfortunately, there are a lot of asbestos in the upper left corner, which are dot-shaped like snowflakes, which is what we usually call snowflake cotton.

As we all know, the biggest fear of figure-shaped plaques is dirt and asbestos. If there are these flaws on the original stone, the figure's face cannot be clean and the overall image cannot be three-dimensional and perfect. It stands to reason that most people would not choose to make figures with such a material with so much asbestos, but our jade carvers are extraordinary. Look at how ingeniously they design it.

After carefully examining the stone, the jade carver designed an image of a barefoot sitting Guanyin in the lower right corner of the original stone, and the upper left corner was designed into an image of distant mountains and tree branches. This was the finishing touch, applying the characteristics of snowflake cotton to the extreme. The hazy image of distant mountains was full of artistic conception.

After a rough outline, it is slowly modified and improved. The character image becomes more and more full, and the various shapes gradually mature until the final version is finalized.

This is the front of a semi-finished product. The jade carver not only has a creative design, but also impeccable craftsmanship. The proportions of the figures are harmonious, the carving is exquisite and detailed, and the lines are smooth and natural. With the backdrop of the distant view, it looks like a leisurely and contented Guanyin.

The original stone material has no cracks, so the back is designed with a blank space without any decoration.

Finally, let’s take a look at the finished product after polishing. The pure white material is a bit monotonous, so a matte finish was used on Guanyin’s face during polishing, making the character more three-dimensional and prominent.

There is a song that goes, 'Wild lilies also have their spring.' Some jade materials that appear to have flaws can also be transformed into classic and beautiful works under the creation of jade carvers. Of course, this also requires the skills of the jade carver.
