This piece of high-color Damakan yellow and green jadeite has high jade in the middle and low jade on both sides. The material is yellow, white and green, three colors blended together. Yellow and green jadeite raw material When viewed through light, its water quality is very fine, with some small cracks on the corners and a full red root. Raw material defects How should the material be processed? The first thing is to take the shape. Looking at it vertically, if you want to make a pendant, the material will be in a D shape. No matter the front or back, the shape of the material is not very balanced, and some corners need to be discarded to take out a regular shape, which is relatively wasteful. Raw material type Looking at it horizontally, despite the irregular material properties, the center of gravity is still stable, and it looks like a mountain. Preliminary engraving design Because it can just stand horizontally, the sculptor suggested making it into a small ornament, with this surface as the front, leaving a certain amount of white, deepening the color inside to reveal the thin edges, and we can discard the small cracks, take out a mountain shape along the color roots, press down the white flesh to spread the red, and the yellow and green jadeite is rich in color, with the magnificent feeling of the Dunhuang murals. It just so happens that the cave statues in Dunhuang were built against the mountain. The green one on the left is a blue lion, and the white one on the right is a white elephant. Carving design theme We refer to the statue of Sakyamuni in the Yulin Grottoes in Dunhuang, which is seated in the center of the grottoes. The Three Holy Ones of Huayan, seeing their mounts is like seeing two holy ones. The plain surface reflects the colors of yellow and green jadeite, and the three colors blend together to express the harmony of the Three Saints. On the back, since the color of the yellow-green jadeite itself is already very pleasant, we did not do too much carving. Instead, we used pure hand-carved micro-carving techniques to carve scriptures about one millimeter deep, giving the work more cultural connotations. Back of raw material Carved design on the back of the material The formation of jade has undergone tens of millions of years of evolution. Through it, we can see the vicissitudes of time, which have formed such a rich blend of colors. Finished Product Appreciation
